Geeky librarian fun

One of my passions is organizing things: digital images, my spice rack, my kid's t-shirt drawer (hmmm, when does passion turn into obsession?). So I really enjoyed my cataloging and classification classes in library school. One of the things we learned was constructing Library of Congress call numbers. You may remember these numbers from those glory days of your college library (what? those weren't glory days for you?!). For example, QE534.2.B64 or DD 220 .O67 1991. They're not Dewey. No no. So much fancier.

Which means this game--where you shelve books first in LC call number order and then according to what LC call number SHOULD be assigned, by title--is more fun than a barrel of unorganized socks for me! I got a score of 4600. Can you beat me? No MLS required to win!

Ready, set, blog

This post launches my brand-new blog, Pict-A-Brarian. I'll be writing about the industries I work in, as a consultant: picture research, art buying, digital asset management and special librarianship. Boiled down, it's all about making and finding pictures--and organizing them.

I will be updating this site often, and I hope you'll check back here regularly. Be sure to leave a comment and let me know you've stopped by!
